Just Breathe

I chase after one thing: My Father's heart.

Spirit of Adoption

Late last night I was driving home from work and worshiping to Jason Upton and he started singing out “breaking off rejection…spirit of adoption.” When I first heard this I took it as if he was saying with the spirit of adoption comes rejection because as an adopted child, you feel rejected from your biological parents. I knew Jason was adopted so I figured he was just singing from his heart, and connecting with those who have gone through the same thing.

As I began to sing with the music, the Lord showed me that that isn’t what Jason was saying at all. He showed me that I was looking at it completely backwards.

In an adoption parents first make the decision that they want a child. Then they go through tons of paper work, money, time, lawyers and interviews all for this child they have never even met. They put in so much work and effort in because they want this child, and actively fight for he/she to come home with them and become part of their family. This child is wanted by them, and pursued.

As I thought about that God showed me how our relationship with him is much the same. He is actively seeking us, chasing us, so we can come home with him and be a part of His family in His kingdom. In no way is adoption rejection in that sense, in fact it’s a special “I am wanted” sort of feeling. Galations 4:4-6 says, “But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.” In that case bring on adoption!!!

The Lord loved us so much that He sent His own son to die so that we might become sons and daughters of a living God. We are adopted! We are wanted! God doesn’t take our change of heart and salvation lightly. Once we make that decision we enter into his kingdom and we become a part of His family. Romans 8:17 says, “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” So not only are we sought out, adopted and get this amazing Abba Father, we get to share and become heirs to his kingdom. We truly become his children because we now get an inheritance, and we share in His glory.

Maybe I was a bit slow to catch on to what Jason was truly saying, but this was such an amazing realization the Lord brought me to last night. I am so wanted by Him. I am important enough to seek out and share His glory with. It doesn’t matter who doesn’t want me because GOD WANTS ME! No more rejection, because my Father in heaven is saying “I’ve signed your paperwork, sent my son, and now you belong to me. Come join my family.”

On Earth adoption paperwork is signed with a ink, but my paperwork was signed with blood!

To the lamb of God who knows me by my name.
